A Long Trip to the Technology Museum of Innovation

November 2002- Technology and Innovations           
 
Fourth and Fifth grade Gate students left Lincrest at 5:45 AM to travel to the Technology Museum of Innovation in San Jose. There they reveled in the day, engaging in the lastest technology innovations throughout the three story building.

December - Lincrest GATE students always appreciate opportunities to meet together
and share the moment.









January - Digital Cameras and Film Production
Students developed skills in the use of digital cameras, camcorders, iMovie and supportive software. Students created, directed, filmed and acted in individual and
group productions. Students toured Channel 10 News station for behind the scenes
action and advise.

Riverboat Criuse
Following the visit to Channel 10, students boarded the Sacramento Riverboat for a luncheon cruise along the Sacramento River. Travel on the river set the stage for future studies in California watersheds and wetlands.

February- Art Design
GATE parent and cake decorator,  Ms. Wallace, taught fifth grade students the intricacies of cake decorating as she walked them through the process of decorating their individual cakes, donated by Yuba City Sams Club.




March- Mission to Mars
Fifth Grade GATE students participated in interactive activities and used computer software to develop understanding of the crtical factors involved in space missions.
Students attended the Discovery Space and Science Museum where they participated in a a simulated Mission to Mars in control of the space station and shuttle.

Background-
Following the simulated Mission to Mars, GATE parent, Mr.Stiles, shared his expertise in aeronautics with the students. He provided a rocket kit for each student, and supported them through assembly and design. Students fired off their rockets from the Lincrest playground in a grand culmination of the project.
